This morning Bobby and I reviewed pages 302 and 303 on congruent shapes and angles. Bobby did not complete all of the homework so we focused some of our efforts in completing the assignment. We practiced comparing the angles, sides and shapes of geometric shapes which are either similar or congruent. Homework is to complete 6-11 on pages 307-308.
We examined recurrent themes and located support in the text ,specifically studying how and why Benny changes his attitudes. As Bobby had some difficulty recalling certain plot lines, we also reviewed the text to refresh his memory so that he would be better able to appreciate the upcoming conflict in the novel. Last, we added to his list of vocabulary words drawn from the reading.
HW- read ch 29
We explored how temperature and air pressure change through layers of Earth’s atmosphere. We related air mass to air pressure. Then we discovered the composition of each layer of the atmosphere and the importance of each layer. For example, the stratosphere contains the ozone layer which protects us from ultraviolet radiation from the sun and the mesosphere burns up meteors before they hit the Earth as meteorites. Next, we looked at the greenhouse effect which is the process by which gases in the atmosphere such as water vapor and carbon dioxide absorb and give off infrared radiation. With greenhouse gases in Earth’s atmosphere, radiation from Earth’s surface is lost to space more slowly, which makes Earth’s surface warmer.
This morning Bobby and I continued our study of ancient Greece by taking a close look at how the geography of the peninsula literally shaped the culture and lifestyle of the early Greeks. The mountainous region compelled many of the inhabitants to become fisherman and many of the towns and villages evolved isolated from each other. Homework is to read pages 262-267 and complete #'s 1-4.
This morning Bobby and I worked on developing our understanding of congruent angles and shapes. We reviewed the material on page 303 to highlight these points. Homework is to complete #'s 11-19 on page 303 and to purchase a protractor at Office Depot. I have shared my concerns with Bobby's recent work ethic with his father who is both supportive and understanding.
Bobby and I utilized this time to watch a video tutorial on how to use iMovie and I shared with him several videos that former students of mine had prepared in the past. We carried this activity over into the study skills class. Bobby did not work on this project during the long weekend.
This afternoon Bobby and I discussed his lack of progress with his digital presentation and some of the reasons why he is reluctant to proceed. Bobby admitted that no one has ever taught him how to use digital video etc. and he was feeling insecure about this. We agreed to start by preparing some simple storyboards using large index cards. He will prepare a timeline using the index cards as a means of organizing his material before creating the movie. He watched tutorial once again on Youtube and I shared with him several video selections that were prepared by my students in the past. Homework is to prepare the storyboard/timeline.

Bobby reviewed and revised sentences that contained incorrect punctuation, contained run-ons, or lacked clarity. We then reviewed the definition of theme, and discussed the author's view of the pre-Zombie world, and the effect the fence or Zombie barrier has on the town residents. The writing exercise dealt with this topic. Bobby and I also looked at the many novels in the new library . Bobby expressed in interest in learning about or reading a number of them.
Homework-Exercise 19 copied from a grammar book and read pages 212-228 from Rot and Ruin.
We reviewed words to connect sentences and discussed phrases to use in comparing and contrasting ideas. Then, we did another guided writing exercise wherein I gave Bobby a prompt based on the novel, and Bobby and I drafted a topic sentence and an essay outline. We started to write the essay and will continue tomorrow.
