Sophie is still behind on her reading. She didn't feel like reading today so I asked her to ask not your usual high school questions about the book, but rather belligerent ones, where she is allowed to question the author and question the teachers who chose the book in the first place. First we looked up belligerent and used it in a bunch of sentences. Examples: Does the book need the bee motif? What would the book be like without it? Do you feel this is a good book for HS students to read? Why? or Why not? Does SLB need May and the wailing wall? What parts cuold the author have just deleted? Why is this book so popular in the first place?

Sophie left early today. She said she had an ear infection and she was leaving. I was able to hand her the review packet I got from Mrs. Salivar before she left.

We Skyped today while Sophie was home sick. The challenge was that she had the software at home but I didn't have it here. I drew a picture of the interface from memory on the whiteboard and Sophie said it was pretty close, so we were able to work around that. She did a nice job arranging the still images and then adding voiceover text using a voice synthesizer. I think she was more focused and attentive during this session than any sessions prior.
Sophie and I had class through SKYPE. I used her room to write on the board. We were able to preview all of the verbs from the present tense that she would have on her final. I am going to meet Mrs. Salivar (her Spanish teacher) at Benjamin today after school to get a review packet.
