We have finished all of the chapter 7 material. To save time, I am planning to give Sophie a take home test Thursday. This will allow her to take the test prior to spring break rather than remember the material for a test to be given after spring break.
Go over all 20 vocab words and repeat the words and the meanings out loud. Write words on board. Then test Sophie on the verbally, just 5 verbs at a time. Today's exercise was designed to increase her confidence and realise that mutliple exposures to a new word will eventually lead to mastery. I felt that she needed this positive experience.

Sophie worked hard for me today. I told her how much I appreciated it and made sure that she understood how much she had progressed with those difficult words. I think she was happy at the end of class.
We continued to work on vocabulary words. Sophie was discouraged about them. Mind you, she didn't bring them home over the weeked and didn't study them. I explained that like anything else, you need to work at them to learn them, to own them. We made up sentences together using 10 of the words.

Take cards home and look at them, study them.

Another problem was that sophie had looked up definitions on line and only wrote part of the definition for each word. She didn't have enough information on many words to distinguish them from other words on the vocab list. I helped her lengthen the definition on the back of the cards.
