5.11 Solve Multistep Problems – We learned how to solve word problems with 2 arithmetic steps. We reviewed the addition and subtraction keywords. We practiced determining what steps to take depending on the keywords. We circled key numbers, underlined the question, and boxed the math “action” keywords.
Assignment: Complete homework problems from workbook.
We practiced finding addition facts to 5 and related subtraction facts. Then we worked on understanding addition, subtraction, expanded form, number lines, and hundred charts. We practiced counting by fives and tens to 100. Next, we worked on telling time on an analog clock.
5.10 Algebra Write Equations to Represent Subtraction – We learned to draw a diagram to understand subtraction problems. We modeled several subtraction problems. Then we completed a two-step word problem where we added two quantities to find the sum and subtracted the sum from the total to find the difference.
Assignment: Complete homework problems from workbook.
5.9 Problem-solving Subtraction – We learned to make sense of word problems requiring subtraction and persevere to solve them. We practiced modeling subtraction with the strategies we’ve learned.
5.7 Rewrite 2-Digit Subtraction – We practiced counting up on a number line to solve two-digit subtraction problems. Then we watched a video on how to solve two-step word problems.
5.8 Add to Find Differences – We use counting up to solve subtraction problems. Then we learned to check our answers by adding our difference to the number we subtracted to see if it matched the initial number.
5.6 Practice 2-Digit Subtraction – We continued to work on finding the difference between two numbers using the strategies we have learned. We are continuing to get better at borrowing from the tens column to subtract ones.
Assignment: Complete homework problems.
5.5 2-Digit Subtraction – We continued to work on regrouping to find the difference between two numbers.
Number and Operations in Base 10 - We are learning to fluently add and subtract within 100 using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.
We practiced long division and word problems requiring division. Then we worked on finding whether factors were prime or composite. Next, we worked on finding the GCF between 2 numbers.
