We had a successful session. We used phone numbers and license plates in our examples.
We will continue our study of the three basic types of probability with an emphasis on basic theoretical and empirical probabilities. We will do example problems and a probability simulation.
We will complete our study of exponential functions by doing examples involving investments to show exponential growth. We will also discuss exponential decay using examples involving half-life of radioactive substances and medications.

Lesson Comments
We completed our study of exponential functions and had a bit of time to start a study of probability.
We will go over three types of probability, subjective, empirical, and theoretical. We will also discuss random events versus chaotic events. Examples will be given in class.

Lesson Comments
We did talk about the three types of probability and did some examples of each type. we also compared random events to chaotic events.
8-1 Key Features of a Quadratic Function – We learned that a quadratic function is a polynomial function in one or more variables in which the highest degree term is of the 2nd degree. The graph is a parabola. The value of the leading coefficient determines both the width of the parabola and the direction the parabola opens (upward or downward).
Assignment: Complete the assigned problems for homework.
We will identify the types of probability and do examples of each type. We will compare and contrast the three types of probability. We will do examples of theoretical and empirical probabilities. We will discuss subjective probability.
We will explore exponential functions in finance. We will study compound interest by comparing the amount earned for several compounding methods. We will do example problems. We will also determine how much to invest to earn a certain amount in the future.

Lesson Comments
We were able to do a variety of examples, and we also were able to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of some investment strategies.
8-1 Key Features of a Quadratic Function – We learned to identify key features of the quadratic function using graphs, tables, and equations. Then we learned the effect of the value of a on the quadratic parent function.
7-6 Factoring ax2 + bx + c – We learned how to factor a trinomial algebraic expression in the form ax2 + bx + c when “a” is not equal to one by either grouping or substitution. We discovered that factoring out a GCF before finding the factor pairs made the numbers smaller and easier to work with.
Assignment: We completed the assigned problems for homework together.
