We will complete our study of linear functions and graphs by using the distance and midpoint formulas to solve problems. We will also study parallel and perpendicular lines in terms of linear functions.

We will complete our study of linear functions today. We will look at scatterplots to determine if a line is a good fit to the graph. We will review finding the equation of the function using points on the line. We will discuss the meaning of the intercepts of the line. As a bit of enrichment we will do some spreadsheet math.

4-5 Systems of Linear Inequalities – We combined the understanding of systems of linear equations and the graphing of linear inequalities to solve systems of linear inequalities on the same coordinate plane. We discovered that the overlapping region is the solution. We also learned to write systems of inequalities by analyzing a graph.

We will do problems involving linear correlation using a spreadsheet. We will do examples of finding the equation of a line given two points, given a scatterplot, and using a spreadsheet.

We began reviewing for a test on Topic 4 Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities. We practiced graphing to find a solution to 2 equations with 2 unknowns. Then we practiced using substitution and elimination.

Today we will find equations given points on a line. This process is very useful in science class and in statistics. We will also look at scatterplots and correlation. We will use a spreadsheet to find the correlation.

We will review the three forms for the equation of a line. We will reverse the process and find the equation of a line from its graph. We will use two points on the line to find the slope and then solve for the y-intercept. We will do several practice problems and check our answers by drawing a graph.
