Topic 4 Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities
Lesson Outline
4-4 Linear Inequalities in Two Variables – We continued to practice graphing solutions to linear inequalities in two variables. Then we went over the homework from last night.
Assignment: For homework complete assigned problems.
We will study the equations for a linear function; general, slope-intercept, and point-slope. We will graph examples using each form and convert from one form to another. We will begin a study of finding the equation given the graph. We will also solve some linear equation word problems using physics examples.

We completed the plans for today and are prepared to find equations from statistical data next week.
Topic 4 Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities
Lesson Outline
4-4 Linear Inequalities in Two Variables – We practiced graphing solutions to linear inequalities in two variables. Then we practiced representing constraints with inequalities and interpreting solutions as viable or nonviable options in a modeling context.

Topic 4 Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities
Lesson Outline
4-4 Linear Inequalities in Two Variables – We learned that the graph of a linear inequality in two variables shows the solutions of the inequality as a half-plane above or below the boundary line. Then we learned that the boundary line is included in the solution when the inequality symbol is less than or equal to or greater than or equal to. The boundary line in an inequality is excluded when the inequality symbol is less than or greater than.
Assignment: For homework complete assigned problems.
We will review the method for solving inequalities. We will solve some problems involving inequalities using the rule of four.

We reviewed and then did examples of solving inequalities verbally, graphically, numerically, and symbolically. We also had time to start solving second degree equations.
Topic 4 Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities
Lesson Outline
4-3 Solving Systems of Equations by Elimination – We practiced solving systems of linear equations by elimination and proving that the sum of one equation and a multiple of the other produces a system with the same solutions as the original system. Then we practiced representing constraints with a system of equations in a modeling context.
Assignment: For homework complete assigned problems.
We will solve some mixture problems, some distance, rate, and time problems, and geometry problems. We will use conventional methods and creative methods of problem solving.
