We will work through examples of solving equations containing fractions. Two contrasting methods will be presented. We will also do an enrichment activity involving probability because many probabilities are stated as fractions.

Lesson Comments
We had an excellent session today. We solved a variety of equations using all we have learned about fractions. The enrichment went very well as David got to be use his creativity since probability is not as algorithmic as basic algebra.
3-2 Linear Functions – We learned to write and evaluate linear functions using function notation. Then we learned to graph a linear function and relate the domain of a function to its graph. Next we learned to interpret functions represented by graphs, tables, verbal descriptions, and function notation in terms of a context.
Assignment: Complete the take home quiz on Lesson 3-1.
Locate rational numbers on a number line. Know the forms of rational numbers: fractions, decimals and percents. Be able to reduce fractions to lowest terms using prime factors. We will look at the difference between an improper fraction and a mixed number. We will discuss the exact value of a number versus an approximation of a number and when each is appropriate in a given situation.

Lesson Comments
We completed all the items in the lesson outline. Everything went well today as we move through working with fractions.
3-1 Relations and Functions – We learned that a relation is an association between sets of ordered pairs where the domain consists of the set of x-values and the range consists of the set of y-values. Then we learned to identify functions and their components in a variety of forms such as graphs, tables, and ordered pairs. Next we learned that a relation is a function only if each element of the domain is assigned to exactly one element in the range. Finally we identified constraints on the domain based on real-world problems.
Assignment: Complete the assigned problems for homework.
Adding and subtracting fractions will be reviewed, but with unknown values represented by x. We will then solve equations containing fractions. Reducing fractions to lowest terms will also be reviewed.
