Algebra I
Session Date
Lesson Topic
Fractions
Lesson Outline
We will review the arithmetic of rational numbers to prepare for expressions and equations in algebra that contain fractions. We will find common denominators so we can add or subtract. We will also reduce fractions to lowest term. Examples will be done to reinforce the concepts.

Rational Numbers
Lesson Outline
We will review graphs of lines and the graph of y = x^2. We will start a new unit on the rational numbers with a review of addition of fractions. This will be followed by examples and practice.

Lesson Comments
David was working on something and lost track of time so he was late logging in to Teams. We did complete our review of graphing and we began our study of rational numbers. We did addition problems with like denominators and also reducing fractions to lowest terms.

Lesson Topic
Parabolas and Quadratic Functions
Lesson Outline
We will start using an example from physics involving a freely falling object.A graph of time versus distance will give us a graph that is a parabola. The data table will show that the second set of differences in the distance fallen are equal, not the first set of differences. The graph is a curve not a line. We will generalize the graph using the equation y = 16x^2.This will lead into the quadratic parent function equation y = x^2.

Quadratic Functions
Lesson Outline
Quadratic functions have the form f(x)= ax^2 +bx +c. We will graph quadratic functions starting with the parent function f(x) = x^2 and working up to more complex quadratic equations. We will also study quadratic equations using tables and using expressions that are quadratic. The graph of a quadratic equation is a parabola.

Transformations
Lesson Outline
The concept of translations and reflections of a graph will be applied to linear functions. We will also look at the other transformations of functions but only to introduce the ideas. We will do examples using lines and also other graphs. We will begin the study of the quadratic family of functions and apply transformations to parabolas.

Topic 2 Linear Equations
Lesson Outline
Review for test on Topic 2 Linear Equations. We practiced how to write an equation in point-slope form from a graph. Then we practiced writing the equation from two points on the line. Next we practiced how to use the standard form to plot a graph, find the slope, and x, y-intercepts. We reviewed the steps to write and graph linear equations in standard form. We practiced changing from standard form to slope-intercept form.
