Topic 9 Solving Quadratic Equations
Lesson Outline
9-1 Solving Quadratic Equations Using Graphs and Tables – We learned to use a graph to identify the x-intercepts as solutions of a quadratic equation. Then we learned that a quadratic equation can have zero, one, or two real solutions. If the graph of the function has no x-intercepts then the equation has no real solutions. If the graph touches the x-axis but does not cross it then there is only one x-intercept and one real solution.

Chapter 13 Quadratics
Lesson Outline
We completed a Chapter 9 review of ordered pairs, domain, range, and inverses of relations for extra credit on the test. We also labeled quadrants, axes, and the origin. Then we worked on identifying whether relations are functions by examining solution sets, mappings, and graphs. Next we determined whether equations were linear by graphing the coordinates from a table. We practiced solving equations for y in order to create a table of ordered pairs for a graph. We also discovered which equations have graphs that are vertical lines. Next we were able to evaluate quadratic equations for functions with respect to x. We practiced finding roots of a quadratic equation by identifying where the parabola crosses the x-axis by identifying the two points on either side of the point. We used the formula for calculating the axis of symmetry of a quadratic equation.
