As we reviewed for the test today, I could tell that David was much more familiar with the material today than he was yesterday. However, this last minute studying may not have been enough as he did struggle with many of the questions on the test.
He displayed a good familiarity with but lack of mastery of the content.
He was only able to make it about half way through the test. He will finish on Monday.
I recommend that he study diligently in preparation.
We discussed the questions that she answered incorrectly and the reasoning that she used to arrive at her answer.
We then celebrated the chapter completion and her test by playing some conjugation ping pong. Kaitlin and I played ping pong and with every volley, we conjugated a verb of her choice.
We then returned to class where she read about the food of other countries.
David and I discussed his progress on the content for this quiz. He studied for two minutes and then took a an -ar verb tree quiz. He was given the choice of three different -ar regular verbs. He chose one of them and conjugated it. He did very well on this quiz. We took the time to point out that at the start of the year, this same type of quiz required more time and attention from him and that his capacity for Spanish knowledge retention is likely improving as we progress through the year.
Libby took some time to match Spanish words with pictures in a fun game of memory! Libby remembered some of the vocabulary all on her own. Libby used the phrase my turn very appropriately during our game.
We then continued our discussion of need and want words.
Libby was given the opportunity to say Yo quiero jugar. (I want to play.) She would then get 3 chances to hit the ping pong ball as many times as she could to herself without letting it drop to the ground.
With a little practice, she got as high as 6 consecutive hits.
She did a great job at the start of this lesson, but later on in the lesson she started to jumble the word from today (Jugar) with the word from yesterday (dibujar).
David was scheduled to take his Chapter 3 test today.
He asked if we could postpone it until tomorrow. While we typically can not accommodate these types of requests, today we could. So, we did tomorrow's activities today and studied to give him a little more time to master the content.
After reviewing with David briefly, I strongly recommend that he study for the test tomorrow if he wants to get a good grade.
David started to write any verbs that he has not yet mastered 3 times each. He should write them one more time each for homework.
David then wrote a paragraph in Spanish independently about activities that he likes to do. We had written a similar paragraph earlier this month. This was to help prepare him for his final exam wherein he will have to write a 5 paragraph essay independently.
David was made aware that he needs to come prepared on the day of the test in the future.
Review: -ar verbs, Ir, Dar, Estar - personal a and contractions
Lesson Outline
Kaitlin and I reviewed all of the key concepts as well as much of the vocabulary for the chapter today.
She completed a series of 15 questions. She used a pattern of attempting the answers independently, asking me for confirmation, troubleshooting together when needed, and then recording her answer.
Kaitlin should continue to check her conjugations after creating a sentence in Spanish.
Kaitlin and I discussed her homework. She was sick and will be allowed to submit it on Thursday.
We discussed her progress on the content for this quiz. She studied for two minutes and then took a an -ar verb tree quiz. She was given the choice of three different -ar regular verbs. She chose one of them (hablar) and conjugated it. She got a 100%
She was notified of an Ir, Dar, Estar quiz tomorrow.
She began to write her next paragraph for her Who am I quiz?
