Review/Close-Out Prep
Lesson Outline
In today’s class, we reviewed everything we learned about our mink dissection. We went over what we began with (the integumentary system, muscular system, and all major external cavities) and ended with what we finished with (digestive system, cardiovascular system, and urinary system). We covered all the major organs as well. We also prepped for the end of school by cleaning out some things Andrew no longer needs.

Mink Dissection
Lesson Outline
In today’s class, we would have continued on with our mink dissection. We would have further dissected the abdomen, observing all parts of the stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. We would have also attempted to see the ureters and urinary bladder. We would have recapped along the way how those systems work and what it takes for them to function properly.

Mink Dissection
Lesson Outline
In today’s class, we were able to continue on with our mink dissection. We were able to further dissect the abdomen, making cuts from the area of the trachea down to the very lower abdomen. Andrew was able to dissect the stomach and abdomen and see the smooth muscles within. We discussed peristalsis and how it connects to the anatomy of the animal.

Review & Prep
Lesson Outline
In today’s class, we took some time to review what we have learned and covered so far with our mink dissection. We used Quizlet to practice our major muscle groups, as well as major blood vessels. We also discussed what we plan to do in future dissections, such as the digestive and circulatory system.

Mink Dissection
Lesson Outline
In today’s class, we continued on with our mink dissection. We isolated the trachea and esophagus, as well as the carotid arteries and veins that bring the majority of the blood to the brain. We bisected the heart to observe the atrium and ventricles and to further understand how mammalian circulatory systems work.

Mink Dissection
Lesson Outline
In today’s class, we would have continued on with our mink dissection. We would have continued to name and isolate specific muscle groups, starting with the most exterior and working inwards. We would have identified different structures such as the trachea, esophagus and the various major nerves and blood vessels.

Mink Dissection
Lesson Outline
In today’s class, we continued on with our mink dissection. We continued to cut away subcutaneous fat while beginning to get into our muscle groups. We started with all of the external muscles and went over many of the main ones and how they function. Some of the groups we looked at are the gluteus muscle groups, the pectoral groups, the abdominal groups, and the muscles that make up the back.

Mink Dissection
Lesson Outline
In today’s class, we began our initial dissection on the mink we had ordered. We started by reviewing our printouts that tell us what were looking for and how to make those precise cuts. Then, with our tray and dissecting kit, we made our first few incisions into the mink. We identified major muscle groups, along with major veins and arteries.
