Matching terms with body parts. The body part is located on an image and the correct comparison to the location of a different part is discussed. Example: the patella is superior to the pedal.
Andrew sketched the anatomical position front and back, then labeled and discussed terms which are used to indicate location.
These include medial and lateral, proximal and distal.
Continue with the next 6-7 descriptive terms used to locate body parts and organs.
Label them on an anatomical diagram. Ask specific questions such as " The heart is _____ to the liver"
Explain that each part or organ will have multitude of positioning defining terms.
Introduce the 3 major body cavities, along with some of the organs located.
Draw and label a body showing each cavity
Discuss the need to accurately identify locations within the human body and on the outside.
Use organ system diagrams to designate the use of specific terms of location.
The following terms will be discussed today.
Superior, inferior, anterior, posterior, ventral dorsal, and medial. For each term, an example will be used.
Andrew indicated why he was out last week. This opened up a complete discussion on the classification of organs and organ systems.
In depth discussion of the anatomy of the respiratory system, along with causes and effects of respiratory problems.

Lesson Comments
Andrew was very interested in the material, asking many questions and working with anatomical drawings from the textbook
Andrew will sketch both the anterior and the posterior anatomical positions used when indicating body parts. The main areas will be labeled and the descriptive terms for the body parts and areas will be listed and discussed.
View and discuss a video program, "Anatomy and physiology for artists".
Derive and list the 9 major organ systems. Briefly discuss the way these systems will be examined in class.
Hand out diagrams of organs. Discuss the definition of an organ while viewing the different body organs.
Explain how ordgan systems differ from organs.
View different organ systems and briefly elicit their function.
Introduce the term hyperglycemia and explain the meaning of each part of the term
ZIntroduce diabetes for further discussion in the next meeting.
