Indicate how this develops even in the absence of a fertilized egg, as the uterus is preparing initially for a fertilized egg. Discuss what occurs at the end of the cycle

Based on yesterday's discussion of ectopic pregnancies, lead into the normal development location for a fetus. Discuss the uterus, the muscular walls and smooth endometrium. Indicate that the endometrium has prepared itself for the implantation of the fertilized egg by adding blood vessels, spongy tissue and fat.
Indicate how the implanted embryo can now begin to obtain food and oxygen from the parent.

View the process of fertilization. Examine reasons for the need for thousands of sperm cells to be present in order for fertilization to occur. Discuss why only a few dozen eventually reach the mature egg in the fallopian tube. Show on a video how the sperm must dissolve away protective coats around the egg. Once one egg has penetrated the covering, sperm receptors are dissolveed and do not allow a second sperm nucleus to enter.

Viewing a diagram, discuss the function of the glands associated with the male reproductive system, the seminal vesicles and the prostate gland. Discuss how the vas deferens and the urinary bladder merge to form the urogenital system

Begin with a discussion as why a couple might be unable to conceive. Elicit and discuss what might be some possible causes due the the male. Discuss how and where in the male reproductive system sperm is produced. View photos of sperm cells surrounding an egg and attempting to enter for fertilization. Discuss why sperm must be present in such large quantities, and why the female system attempts to destroy the sperm cells.

Outline and view labeled diagrams of the male reproductive system, the basic anatomy. Discuss the production of sperm cells within in the testes, optimal temperature and the seminiferous tubules. Introduce the seminal vesicles, urethral glands and prostate gland. Discuss the functions of each. Label a diagram of a sperm cell and review how and why the chromsome count is 1/2 that of all other cells.

Through the use of diagrams, discuss how the male and female reproductive system are morphologically alike. View diagrams of meiosis and discuss the reason why the chromosome number must be halved in sex cells. Use diagrams of the male reproductive system and discuss spermatogenesis compared to oogenesis.
