great session, I'm going to enjoy working with her!
Today Kelcy and I continued working on the project he started with Ms. Maylie. They created the outer art for a valentine card and we worked on writing the message inside! It turned out great!
We started the last chapter book we will read together for the week and worked on recording the sight words he knows from his word wall to his journal.
Today Kelcy and I finished our Junie B. Jones chapter book! We spent the remaining time talking about his upcoming adventures (vacations!) and working in his journal! I am so happy with his excitement to write today :) I'm sad our time is coming to an end!!!
Today we continued research on the Arctic and specifically polar bears and the snowy owl! He journaled about the Snowy Owl and all the new facts he learned today. I told him that I am so, so proud of him and I can't wait for him to show his skills to his Spring Lake teachers! We finished the day with some sight word games and reading (almost to the end) of Junie B. Jones and the Mushy Gushy Valentine. He LOVES these books and laughs out loud when we read them!

As mentioned above, parts of our lesson today took a lot of coaxing! But we talked about it! We talked in detail about how he came here not knowing how to write, and is leaving as a writer who can put anything he is thinking on paper! I hope he knows how proud of him I am :)
Today we spent a good part of our day researching the two Arctic predators, polar bears and walruses! We even got to watch the Wild Kratts arctic animal episode to learn more. We took notes and discussed ideas for a project before the end of the week.
We finished our session with reviewing sight words, journaling, and read alouds from Junie B. Jones and our poetry book.
Today we warmed up the lesson with a couple chapters in our new Junie B. read aloud. He caught me up on what's been happening in the last couple days in that book!
We spent the rest of our time today doing some arctic research with books I brought, including one about how to build an igloo which seemed to really interest him! So once we had gathered some information from our books, we found a really great video that showed two native Inuit building a quick overnight igloo for hunting shelter. Kelcy had lots of great questions that I'm looking forward to finding the answers to next week!

great session! It was fun to do something different!
This afternoon we began with a review of the —at word family. On Starfall.com we read three short a vowel stories. Kelcy first echo read each story and then worked to read each by himself. We then used the animated word builder machine in which he built three-letter words by changing the first or last letter with the vowel remaining a. For example, he began with cap, can, and then fan. Kelcy practiced reading each word. Kelcy practiced building words in the -an family (can, pan, ran, and fan). Finally, Kelcy worked to make more —an words by stamping them in his journal. He stamped pan, can, and ran.
Today Kelcy and I did some review with ABC/Sight Word Ninja, read a couple chapters in our Junie B. read aloud, and played a rhyming word game to practice rhyming words from our lesson.
Kelcy helped me decide what activities he would like to do in the next couple days when Ms. Maylie and Ms. Debbie will be spending time with him. I wanted to make sure that he was able to choose, and would be excited about the lessons I create. We will be incorporating a lot of the arctic research and journaling during the next two days!
