Lesson Outline
Today we did an overview and refresher of all the types of severe weather we have been learning about - labeling each weather picture in his room and acting them out. We also discussed similarities and differences about each picture.

In Kelcy's writing today, we incorporated the new sight words from earlier this week "I" and "am" into writing sentences.

Lastly we read the book "Bear Feels Sick" and discussed Empathy - feeling what others feel in your own heart. We talked about times he had felt empathy for others and made a poster for his room to remember this concept!

Today during our session we created our second tornado prototype and it was a little more successful than the first one! We talked about the rotation and force of a tornado (he related it to a whirlpool) and also described what sort of debris a tornado could pick up in its path.

Lastly, I gave Kelcy and new composition notebook and we called it "Kelcy's Wonder Journal" where he can draw and write about anything that is on his mind. We will use the journal to keep track of his writing progress throughout the year!

Today we completed Kelcy's art integration from the Eric Carle book "Little Cloud" - He was labeling each item on his art and decided he wanted to write messages to his family members on post it notes, too. I am starting to see he is LOVING writing, feeling incredibly confident about hearing and writing sounds.

I will be making sure to implement writing instruction as well as art integration into our plans every day! He is so excited to label, write messages, and record his thoughts in a meaningful way. I can't wait to see his growth this year!

Finally, we attempted to create a tornado in a bottle today (with little success) - so we researched a couple different ways to do it on YouTube and will attempt "Tornado #2" tomorrow :)

We began our session today by reading "Little Cloud" by Eric Carle. We talked about different types of clouds we've seen, then recreated some clouds and a sky in Eric Carle's style of art.

We watched some kids National Geographic videos on severe weather (tornadoes, hurricanes, sandstorms, hailstorms, etc.) We discussed what we learned about tornadoes and hurricanes specifically and created some sidewalk chalk art to remember it!

Getting to know each other!
Lesson Outline
Today was my first time meeting with Kelcy! We spent time getting to know each other and I learned about his interests. Today I brought a tray of "gadgets" (random pieces of deconstructed hardware) and he was able to play, sort, and create with these items. He chose to sort the items based on their physical attributes and then created a few inventions!

We read the book Iggy Peck, Architect and Kelcy designed a bridge of his own. We will be doing lots of creating, inventing, and exploring this year in science and social studies!

First part of lesson, very lethargic - thought he wasn't interested! Turns out he was hungry, ate a sandwich and a snack and he was a totally different kid. I'm looking forward to working with Kelcy :)
