Gracyn and I focused on the spelling words "took, look, up, and animal." She had to draw a picture to describe each word. My favorite was the picture she drew of a girl who took another girl's doll. The expression she drew on the girl's face was priceless! Next we began working on her American Girl Catalog.
Today we continued to work on math. I reviewed the penny and today I introduced the nickel. We observed tbe nickel and what pictures and words were on the front and back. Then we practiced counting nickels and pennies. We would start with 5 cents then add up. She got this and I was so proud of her! She also competed her Reading Eggs map 4 and received a certificate! We shared the good news with friends and teachers at the school!!
Today Gracyn and I reviewed her spelling words but focused on "day, blue, ask, and book". She had to write each word and draw a picture to represent that word. In writing she had to unscramble words to make a sentence. Then she had to edit the sentence and rewrite it adding a capital letter and punctuation. We went to the computer and did Reading Eggs and she read about earthworms on Raz Kids.
Math lesson and review. One number more, one number less. Ten more, ten less. Use a 100 chart to help find the numbers and use pictures of ten rods and ones cubes. Addition and subtraction worksheet. Math games and centers. Use computer to find math games.
Arianna and I started her math unit on money! Today we focused on the penny. We observed the penny and noticed the pictures and words on the penny. She also rubbed the penny using a crayon and paper. We counted pennies and recorded now much money we counted. I explained to her the cent sign and why we use it. We spent the rest of our time on abcya.com and playing with magnets.
I introduced Gracyn to her spelling list today. The words on her list this week are sight words and words with the vowel blend -oo (look, book, took). Her challenge word this week is animal. In writing she wrote two sentences in her writing journal about what she did this weekend. Gracyn was not feeling well and she got to snuggle in bed all weekend watching movies! In reading we read the Raz Kids Level D book "Katie and Katie". We did a picture walk and a words walk prior to her reading to increase her comprehension. She read the book and only struggled on a few hard unknown words. She read the story with expression which made me so excited! We will reread the story tomorrow and she should read it with more fluency. We are making an American Girl Doll book. Today we researched and printed pictures of the dolls she will be writing about this week!
