Gracyn and I reviewed her new spelling words. I am now prepping her for the 1st grade. Today she had to write her spelling words 3 times each. Next we wrote about what she would do if she were president. First we brainstormed and used a word web. Then she selected her favorite thing. She chose "If I were president I would stay in my bed and watch TV!" In reading we read a level D reader "I can make 100 things". I was so over the moon! She read this book accurately and fluently! She did a book summary and selected the marshmallow page as her favorite part. We went to the computer and created a fancy dinner. We printed pictures of steak, pasta, mac and cheese, and of course a wedding cake. She labeled the pictures and we put them on a big plate.

Counting/ Reading
Lesson Outline
Arianna and I worked on counting together. We made it fun by emptying her Valentine's box of candy. We then sorted the candy into groups, counted the amount of candy in each group and counted the total amount of candy as we put it away. We read Blues Clues The Shape Book together twice. She said she just "loves that book". We learned about squares, rectangles, triangles and circles. Then we went around her room and tried to find as many of those shapes as we could. Arianna wanted to keep reading so she picked three Disney Princess stories that we read together, A Dazzling Day, Hoppily Ever After and Make Believe Bride.

Today is our valentine's celebration at school! After enjoying a special donut I brought her we jumped into a fun candy heart science lesson. First Gracyn had to sort the hearts by their color. Then she had to add up the hearts to see which color had the most and least. Next we did a sink or float experiment with the candy hearts. Gracyn thought the hearts would surely sink…and she was right! We left the hearts in the water to see what would happen to the water by the end of the day. So far it looks like a rainbow! In reading we went to Raz Kids where Gracyn read a few old books and one new level D story. She was able to answer the comprehension questions with no error. In writing we went back to our candy hearts. We had a lot of fun reading the messages written on them and then writing them down.
