11-3 Multiplying Mixed Numbers
We learned that one way to find the product of mixed numbers is to change the calculation to an equivalent one involving improper fractions. We also learned to use compatible numbers and rounding to develop our number sense.

LA Enrichment: Gwendolyn and I played scrabble. She said she liked the word game and she did well with some help. Good going, Gwendolyn.

We played soccer, did shuttle runs and did a short upper body strength circuit.

We continued on with poetry. We practiced writing a diamante poem, 5 senses and a concrete poem.

BrainPop Government: Gwendolyn viewed videos of different areas of the Government of the US. She also viewed the difference between Democratic and Republican policies/ issues. Good job, Gwendolyn.

Today Gwendolyn and I made Vanilla ice cream in the play and freeze ball. The ball has two openings one on the top and the other on the bottom. On one side, we filled the ball with ice all the way to the top and added ½ cup of rock salt and closed the lid tightly. Then on the other side, we filled the ball with 2 cups of cream, 1 & ½ teaspoons of vanilla, 1/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons of sugar and ½ cup of chocolate chips. We then started playing with the ball. We talked about why we added salt to the ice. We learned that it causes a temperature drop that slows the melting rate and increases the freezing rate. After 15 minutes of playing with the ball Gwendolyn turned the delicious vanilla ice cream into Root Beer floats.

We reviewed 11-1 Multiplying Fractions and Whole Numbers and 11-2 Multiplying Two Fractions. Then we practiced applying these concepts to problems involving 2 steps and word problems.

Today we continued working with demonstrative adjectives and did an exercise on conversation and comprehension where we had to choose which demonstrative adjective to use according to the conversation. Gwendolyn did great! Also, we learned about Uruguay, we colored its flag and learned its capital city.

I introduced Gwendolyn to the online game of Neopods. She had to solve problems to advance to the next level.

We read aloud some poetry books and discussed them. Then we practiced writing our own poems and talked about them.
