Gwendolyn and I spent a significant time reviewing this morning - historical events and the time period after World War I, vocabulary, and geographical terms. We looked at causes of The Great Depression and the jazz age to learn more about what was happening in the country after the War. We read in the textbook and stopped at The Dust Bowl, which is where we will begin in our next class. We discussed a project for Earth Day, creating a hanging 3D globe.
Today Gwendolyn and I warmed up with a mile walk. When we got to the park, Gwendolyn and I worked on passing using both her left and right hand. We practiced ground balls and cradling. We finished class with working on transitions down the field.
Today we continued to work on braiding. We then got Gwendolyn's bracelet set up. Today she picked a beautiful purple thread. Next, she started adding the beads. Her bracelet turned out beautifully.
Today we went over the conjugation of the verb to be ( form ser) and applied it to different exercises, also we wrote a paragraph describing different people using the verb to be and its conjugations.
Gwendolyn was able to choose her activity for this lesson as she had completed her work on poetry and the other read aloud assignments. We had a thorough game of Scrabble and I report that again, I was defeated by a student.
In this lesson, Gwendolyn and I read aloud from The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Instructions were given on good read aloud technique, including pauses, stops, and inflection. After demonstrating this for her, Gwendolyn's delivery improved greatly.
Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion Experiments - We participated in ten activities to observe Newton’s three Laws of Motion. We followed written lab procedures to analyze the effects of force, mass, and acceleration. The activities included measuring force with a spring scale, mass of marbles and eggs to calculate force and creating Newton’s cradle. We practiced identifying forces acting on stationary objects and objects in motion.
Assignment
We completed our poster of Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion.
We continued with writing poetry. She wrote an Acrostic poem, W-W-W-W-W poem and a 5 senses poem. We finished our time reading The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe aloud.
Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion - We practiced identifying which of Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion were involved in several scenarios. We observed that in the first law of motion that it took more force to get an object moving than to keep it moving. Next we observed that the greater the mass of an object the more force it takes to move the object. Then we calculated the force in Newtons for several items given the mass and acceleration. We also learned that the third law of motion says that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
