Sophia and I were both low energy today, but as the session progressed and she analyzed the characters in the book, our energy picked up. Even so, I didn't feel as if we covered enough for the session, so we agreed that she read as much as she can until Friday.

We spent more time analyzing the historical context and identifying foreshadowing, flashback, and allusion. Sophia read about five chapters as homework, so she was excited to share the plot conflicts and character development. We also continued our analysis of verbal and non-verbal communication between the characters.

Sophia's focus and enthusiasm were very high today. Her curiosity probed the phenomenological experience of reading the same text years apart.

Sophia read 3 more chapters from Blundell's novel. We analyzed foreshadowing and subtext in dialogue. Much of her comprehension issues is hindered by a limited English vocabulary but also by historical cultural context since the setting is late 1940's after World War II. She is, however, drawn to geographical setting of Palm Beach.
