Jackson would have begun a unit on poetry. We would have started with defining poetry and reviewing its different types. Next, Jackson would have read and compared the poetry of Frost and Collins.
Jackson would have finished watching the movie, Charly. We would have followed up the movie with a discussion and writing assignment on the differences between the movie and the book.
We began Stephen King's "On Writing." The current edition I have has three forwards and we went through all three of them. We talked a bit about King's work, including "'Salem's Lot" and "11-22-63." We found a reference King made to Strunk & White's "Element of Style," which I happened to have a copy of and went over a few of their "rules."

Jackson was quite attentive and followed the lesson well.
Jackson continued watching the movie version of Flowers for Algernon. The movie more closely follows the original short story rather than the novel. We discussed the differences and whether they had any significant impact on the story itself.
I worked with both Bobby and Jackson (skyping) to use online math games to enhance their strategy building abilities. We used the NLOS Cannon Challenge game to help them relate to velocity and angles. Then Jackson and I helped Bobby to perform virtual operations as a doctor.

Lesson Comments
The boys enjoyed the interaction with each other as well as with me. By using the online games, Jackson and Bobby were able to practice their analytical skills while having fun.
Today, Jackson and I discussed the computer age and the need to share, store, send, retrieve, and analyze data. We went over numerous industries that have the need for IT and the different types of data they would deal with. Next, I showed Jackson how to set up an email account. I gave him a walk through over how to create and compose an email, as well as how to add an attachment, design the font, and create hyperlinks. We also discussed the need to be extremely responsible and conscientious online, and the need to be aware of stranger danger on the internet. Lastly, Jackson practiced his typing skills. He did two difference practice drills and is testing between 7-10wpm with around 90% accuracy.
