Geometry
Session Date
Lesson Topic
Polygons
Lesson Outline
Names and types of polygons will be discussed. We will determine the sum of the measures of the interior angles of polygons and the sequence that the numbers lead to. We will discuss the measures of the interior angles of a regular polygon and the formula that follows.

The geometry of a baseball field
Lesson Outline
We will study the geometry of a baseball field as described by the rules for major league baseball. There are polygons, circles, lines perpendiculars, parallel lines and more. From these examples we will go to a study of polygons and circles.

Cam followed closely as we laid out the field. He does well when we relate the topics to applications that he is interested in.

Lesson Topic
Plan for Completing the Geometry Course
Lesson Outline
we will discuss the content and methods for Geometry. We will focus on real applications and use them to identify geometry definitions, theorems, and postulates. For example, we use a major league baseball field to identify polygons, areas and, parallel mlines.

Lesson Topic
Circles
Lesson Outline
We will work through problems involving chords in a circle. We will also do problems involving inscribed angles and central angles.
Assignment
Complete the inscribed angles worksheet, page 2.

Lesson Comments
Kaitlyn asked me if I thought she could do Honors Geometry. I told her I am confident that she can. When I taught at Clark, we only had honors geometry, so I am very familiar with the course. Hopefully she can upgrade to honors to help her GPA.

Lesson Topic
Circles
Lesson Outline
Go over example problems on the inscribed angles worksheet. Prove the theorem that states that the radius of a circle that is perpendicular to a chord bisects the chord. Do examples of the theorem that states that two inscribed angles that intercept the same arc are congruent.
Assignment
Arcs and Chords worksheet problems 1-6.

Lesson Comments
We did problems today that required some algebra but were successfully completed. Combining algebra and geometry topics is difficult for many students but Kaitlyn handled them nicely.
Session Date
Lesson Topic
Inscribed Angles
Lesson Outline
After a review of central angles and arc, we will study inscribed angles. We will use the inscribed angle theorem to solve problems. We will draw some inscribed polygons as illustrations of this topic.
Assignment
Inscribed Angles worksheet problems 1 through 10.

Lesson Topic
Circles
Lesson Outline
We will review the definitions of circle, radius, and arc. We will do numerical examples using these concepts. Next, we will define diameter and chord. These will be used to solve problems. A discussion of symmetry will also be part of the lesson because circles are very symmetric figures.
Assignment
Worksheets sent on Monday (as much as can be done based on what we covered so far)

Kaitlyn continues to have a good understanding of the concepts presented. She also has been consistently on time with logging in. She follows the lesson and answers my questions.

Lesson Topic
Circles
Lesson Outline
After a review of polygons, we will begin a study of circles. We will start with the definition of a circle using the set of points approach. We will also define a circle as the graph of the x^2 + y^2 = r^2. We will define an arc of a circle and how to measure an arc. We will define major arc, minor arc, and semicircle.
Assignment
Assignments for the upcoming classes were sent by email, but we didn't cover enough material to do much with them at this time.

We are off to a good start on the circle's unit. This will be a long unit, and we will use basic algebra in many problems.
Session Date
Lesson Topic
Polygons
Lesson Outline
To begin we will complete the study of the number of diagonals in a convex polygon. We will produce the formula that gives the number of diagonals based on the number of sides. We will also define an exterior angle of a polygon and calculate the sum of the exterior angles of a convex polygon (one at each vertex). The sun is always 360 degrees.
Assignment
Complete the worksheet on polygons.

We completed the unit on polygon properties, and we will move on to a study of circles. Kaitlyn is doing very well in this course. She is involved and cooperative and learns the topics quickly.

Lesson Topic
Polygons
Lesson Outline
We will start with the names of polygons based on the number of sides. We will determine the sum of the interior angles of a polygon. A regular polygon has congruent angles so we can find the measure of one interior angle based on the number of sides. It is also possible to determine the number of diagonals in a polygon based on the number of sides.
