6-1 Ratios and Unit Rates – We learned how to find unit rates. Next, we practiced converting a rate using conversion factors.
Assignment: Homework 6-1 Practice
6-1 Ratios and Unit Rates – We learned that a ratio compares two quantities by division and the order of the numbers in a ratio is very important. The first number in the ratio always represents the quantity that is named first in describing the ratio. We learned how to write and simplify ratios.
Chapter 5 Operations with Fractions Review – We began by warming up with practicing addition and subtraction with fractions, metric conversions, and plugging in numbers for variables. Then we practiced multiplication and division with fractions.
Chapter 5 Operations with Fractions Review – We began to review the concepts in this chapter. We played a board game where we solved problems involving products and quotients with negative signs in fractions. We also practiced solving equations by adding and subtracting fractions in an effort to prepare for a test on these concepts.
5-9 Powers of Products and Quotients – We learned to simplify powers of products and quotients with negative signs in real-world problems. Then we discovered that simplifying the power of a product uses a process similar to the distributive property. The exponent outside the parentheses is distributed to and multiplied by the exponent of each factor inside the parentheses including the exponent 1.
Assignment: Complete problems from 5-9 in textbook.
Checkpoint Quiz 2 – Solving Equations with Fractions and Customary Conversions
Then we played a board game that is made up of several different types of math topics.
5-8 Solving Equations by Multiplying Fractions – We learned to solve equations by multiplying fractions and mixed numbers. Then we learned that when a variable in an equation is multiplied by a fraction you divide each side of the equation by that fraction to solve the equation.
5-7 Solving Equations by Adding or Subtracting Fractions – We learned to use inverse operations and the Addition and Subtraction Properties of Equality to solve equations involving subtraction or addition of fractions. Then we learned that we often must find the LCD of the fractions to complete the solution.
Assignment: Complete problems from 5-7 in workbook
We worked on solving mixed numerals and improper fractions.
5-7 Solving Equations by Adding or Subtracting Fractions – We learned to use inverse operations and the Addition and Subtraction Properties of Equality to solve equations involving subtraction or addition of fractions. Then we learned that we often must find the LCD of the fractions to complete the solution.
