Chapter 6 Ratios, Proportions, and Percents
Lesson Outline
6-6 Proportions and Percents – We learned how to solve a percent problem by writing and solving a proportion. Then we learned how to draw models to help us solve percent problems. Next, we learned that we can find a percent, find a part, or we can find the whole.

We reviewed Lessons 6-1 to 6-4.
6-5 Fractions, Decimals, and Percents – We learned that the word percent comes from the Latin phrase per centum which means by the hundred or per 100. Then we learned to write a percent as a fraction. Next, we learned to write a number is a percent. Next, we learned that per suggests division so 28% means 28 per 100 and you can also write 28% as 28÷100.

6-4 Probability – We learned that theoretical probability describes the likelihood of an event occurring when all possible outcomes are known and all the outcomes are equally likely to occur. Then we learned that the probability of an event is a number between zero and one where probability zero means that the event will not occur and probability one means that the event must occur.

6-2 Proportions – We learned how to solve proportions and use them to solve problems. We know that a mathematical sentence that states that 2 ratios are equal is a proportion. Then we learned that 2 ratios form a proportion if their cross products are equal. Next, we learned that proportions can be true, false, or open.
