Tia completed all of the homework that I assigned. She seems to be feeling better about the ACT. Next week will be our last session. After which, she will really need to continue completing practice tests and move into timing herself.
We went over the science and math sections that Tia completed for homework. We also worked through part of the geometry section.

Lesson Comments
Tia completed the assignments that I gave her. She seems to be catching on to strategies for solving problems. She says that she is very slow in completing them, which is ok. It is better to answer slow and get the ones that she completes correct than to answer them all but so fast that she doesn't have time to think about it.
Tia does a great job paying attention, but I'm not sure of how much of the information she retains. We worked on the essay today and went over the process she wants to go through, thesis statements and the topics for her body paragraphs. But in the practice drills, despite me repeatedly telling her she needs on "con" example, she kept forgetting to include it. She really does need a lot of work with her writing. She can improve with practice, but may want to consider scheduling a few sessions before she takes the test.
I taught Tia the process of "Plugging-in" to answer questions on the ACT.

Tia seemed to have little trouble with the process of the reading comprehension test. She's very good at finding the key words and ideas, and with practice, she should be ok on this part of the test. Her skim reading skills are pretty strong, which should help her in the long run. The key to this section is test management and Tia understands the process very well.
I explained the test set-up and basic strategy of the ACT. Then we worked through the fundamentals section of the ACT book.

Lesson Comments
Tia has forgotten a lot of the basic vocabulary that she needs to know for the ACT, but I think that she will remember that info now that we have gone over it. She is also at a disadvantage because she has not taken Algebra 2 yet. However, I do know, from past experience with Tia, that she really improves with practice.
Tia did a lot of work over the last week but still needs to work on her time management skills for the test. She's spending too much time on certain types of questions and consequently isn't getting through the test. We're working on recognizing the different types of questions and knowing which ones to answer and which ones to save for the second pass. She's having trouble with the rules for comma's, but that should get better with practice. On the whole, she's doing very well and averaging 10 correct answers for every 15 questions. She should be in good shape.
Today we went through all the rules of grammar she needs to know for the test and the process she want's to go through while answering. Tia is a very bright girl and she did a great job on the material. Now it's just a matter of practicing and reinforcing what's she's learned.

Tia's score on her practice test should be tempered by the fact that she only finished about 60% of the questions. She needs to focus on the time management techniques try to get to as many correct answers as she can.
