Linear regression
Lesson Outline
In this activity, again, will created a scatter plot given a set of data. He then drew a line of best fit using the scatter plot as a guide and then he used the line of best fit to make a prediction. The whole process was repeated using the graphing calculator and making the scatter plot. The calculator made the line of best fit and then Will used it again to predict future outcomes.

Final Movie -
Will was challenged with making a short stop-action movie. He was instructed to set up his camera with the tripod, to photograph ‘Mr. brain-dead’ (a small doll) moving across his desk. He was then challenged with downloading, renaming, animating, editing, converting to video, and adding audio to the images using three software apps: Name Changer, Photoshop, and iMovie. Will also recorded some audio from the internet to add to his film, titled ‘The Walking Brain Dead’.

Final Exam
Lesson Outline
I proctored Will while he resumed his work on the 20-question final exam. The exam consisted of problems on factoring and dividing polynomials, evaluating radical expressions and numbers raised to rational exponents, simplifying radical expressions, finding composite functions and inverse functions. Will finished the test and received a perfect score of 100%. There was no assignment.

After working on the test for nearly 4 hours, Will had completed only six problems until today. Then, he became very focused and completed the remaining 14 problems in two hours.

Lines of regression
Lesson Outline
In this activity, we took three sets of data and drew scatter plots and lines of best fit. We ended the session making a prediction of a future event by using the line of best fit.

Lines of regression
Lesson Outline
In this session, Will worked with lines of regression. He first takes data and creates a scatter plot. All of the scatter plots for the first few days will be linear. He than draws a line of best fit using his best judgment and makes a prediction about some future data point. Will then enters the data in his graphing calculator and the program makes a scatter plot. The calculator then determines the exact line of best fit. The last step is to use this line of best fit to predict a future data outcome.

Final Exam
Lesson Outline
Will worked on his final exam while I proctored his exam. I wanted to make sure that he could ask questions if he didn't fully understand the problems he was working on. He worked during the entire session but has not yet completed the exam. The exam consists of 20 problems dealing with polynomial functions, rational exponents, and radical expressions.
There was no assignment.

Lines of best fit
Lesson Outline
In this session, we focused on analyzing data. It starts with entering data in the stats program and drawing a scatter plot. Then Will used the scatter plot to draw a line of best fit. He than used the graphing calculator and the stats program to confirm the line of best fit. The session ended with Will using the line of best fit to estimate a future value.

Senior Letter to self
Lesson Outline
Today was a day of reflection and discussion. Will’s assignment was to write a letter to himself to be read when he graduates from college. It is a “Senior to Senior letter to Self”. This is a personal letter that he will seal and read when he graduates from college. The purpose is to provide a record of his current life, views and attitudes and to explore his feelings. Years from now, he will enjoy reading it and seeing how much he has grown. After brainstorming, he began writing his letter and will finish this assignment at his last session next week.

novel study /theme
Lesson Outline
Will completed his reading and study of the novel, “The Glass Castle”. Today, we discussed the recurring themes in the novel: order verses turbulence, forgiveness, responsibility, self-sufficiency and nonconformity. This was a thought-provoking novel and Will and I had some serious discussions. Will shared that the novel made him think a lot about his childhood in school and about the future. He shared that he is happy to have his senior year ending but also sad about leaving the Batt School. Will also shared that he feels a little anxious about leaving this safe environment and wonders what school will be like at Lynn University. I reassured him that he will have lots of support, and that he is prepared to find his way in that new environment. I am so happy that he is comfortable opening up to me about his thoughts and concerns.
