Reading, Story Elements & Cursive
Lesson Outline
Maya and I had a great session. She came in ready to work. Maya chose the book "Balloon Farm" for shared reading. We alternated pages. Maya liked me to follow each word with my finger. That seemed to help her stay on track. I also used my finger to cover-up parts of words when helping her decode. This was very helpful to her. When she came across a word she misread I tapped the word cuing her to try again. She was very compliant and successful:) After reading the story we discussed the story elements. She discussed each section and I wrote. Lastly, Maya and I worked on the letter t in her cursive book. She enjoyed practicing the letter and words on the white board too.

Diverse cultures within our community
Lesson Outline
Maya and I discussed diverse cultures that exist in our South Florida area. She read from the text book, took simple notes, completed a graphic organizer including elements of culture: food, sports, languages, and holidays. We located the countries represented in South Florida on the world map, and labeled continents as they are pertinent to holidays, ie Christmas originated in Europe. Maya looked at several countries' currencies (real money I brought in from my personal travels), in bill and coin form, and we discussed how each country, like the United States, honors their cultural heroes by printing their faces on currency. Following her interest in holidays around the world, we watched and discussed a Brain Pop Junior video segment on holidays.

She continued a sentence by sentence activity in her V/V program. She completed a sequencing activity where she was successful in placing the events into order and sketching pictures of the images she had created. Great day, Maya!
