Maya worked very hard on writing her lab report including all scientific steps. The conclusion will be completed the next period.
Today Maya practiced her 4X tables and again she was able to decrease her time. She completed her drill in just under 2 minutes. Maya did some additional practice in preparation of her Topic 3 test. She practiced estimating numbers, finding compatible numbers and rounding to the nearest 10 and 100. We could not review her homework to address any problem areas, as her backpack was left at home. Tomorrow she will do her last review for her test on Thursday. Maya continued her FF program, breaking her highest score in Cosmic Reader. Excellent job, Maya! Way to go!
Maya practiced dividing words into syllables. Maya was having a hard time staying on task and told me it was because she was wasting time so she did not have to do the dictation part of the lesson. Very clever!

Maya was very interested about vents, asking question from time to time.
Today Maya reviewed some of the mathematical concepts she learned last week. She did her 4x table practice and beat her quickest time in a timed exercise. In V/V today she read a short story and drew pictures to represent her own mental image for each sentence. She was able to see how each following sentence would change her image. She did well, identifying the gestalt and adding details to her pictures. It was difficult for her to imagine what might happen next in the story. After some coaching she was able to verbalize her own prediction. Maya continued working in her FF program.
Today in Math Maya brought in her Halloween candy, along with some of her classmates. She had a great time sorting her candy into various groups such as chewy and fruity candy, Twizzlers, Reeses, etc. Then she created a graph that would be suitable for demonstrating the amounts. Next Maya practiced skip counting by 2s and 5s in order to complete her graph. She used different colors to make them stand out. After graphing her candy by 5s, she successfully identified addition as the property she would use to find her total. Her grand total was 210 pieces (not counting the ones she had already eaten, hee)! This was a fun activity where Maya was able to incorporate some of the math skills she has learned. She did excellent on her 4X table drill. Her timing was her best yet- 2 minutes and 10 seconds! Maya packed and got ready for her NY trip by 10:45. Have a safe and fun-filled trip!
