Today Maya was very excited due to the holiday. She completed a 4x table drill. She requested that I write for her because she was "injured" (her costume). She looked great and played the role well especially for pictures- so adorable! Maya has been more reluctant to do school work these past couple of days. I am thinking it is just all of the anticipation she has had of looking forward to dressing up today. We did not follow her normal routine, as it is a special day. After lunch she had lots of fun participating in all of the fun Halloween games and stories. It was nice to get all of the students together and share in all of the excitement of the festivities. We played musical coffins, hot pumpkin, solved Halloween riddlles, made a food craft, listened to a Halloween read aloud, played games that required memory skills and recall with Halloween holiday items, and estimation games. It was a great day for all! Afterwards I read Maya another two cute Halloween stories and we made a pumpkin mobile. I hope that you all have a great Halloween!

Maya and I read The True Story of the Big Bad Wolf. It was difficult for her to understand that the purpose of the story was written to try to convince readers that he shouldn't be considered the big bad character that he was made out to be in the original story. It was written from the wolf's perspective. Her predictions were accurate most of the time. At times, her answers were limited and didn't provide the most important thread to what was happening. Her text based answers were right on. (the house wasn't sturdy enough so it fell, it was made out of bricks, etc.) She was getting tired from discussion and was rubbing her eyes a bit, so we took a movement break.

Today Maya practiced her 4x flashcards quickly and then took a practice drill. Her time is good and improving. In math lesson 3-4, Maya reviewed rounding/estimating to the nearest 10 and 100 and and then using these estimates to subtract triple digit numbers. Maya continued her FF program. In V/V, Maya completed the first lesson in her workbook. She answered higher order thinking questions and then read a new story, The Clown Show. She answered questions pertaining to the story and focused more heavily on the images she had created. She answered all of them successfully, including a picture summary and gestalt. I look forward to seeing Maya in costume, as I know how excited she has been. It should be a fun day!
