Reading - Go over vocabulary - raucous, renounced, swaggering, insolently, elaborately, incredulously, and simultaneously. Introduce short story "Charles" by Shirley Jackson - explain point of view (vantage point from which the author tells the story). This story deals with the plot and one has to make inferences throughout. Answer comprehension questions. This was a funny story with a surprise ending…which both Devon and I enjoyed reading.
Creative writing - Devon chose to write about pink dolphins - found in the Amazon River.
English - Explain/give examples of comparative adjectives and adverbs, for example, adjectives - tall, taller, tallest - use each in a sentence - adverbs - fast, faster, fastest - use each in a sentence. Also, give examples of adjectives/adverbs when you add more, most when comparing people/things. Explain special adjectives called articles (comes before noun). Complete exercises. Devon was really interested in her topic - she would read about it, type, and tell me as she went along…I was so pleased to see her this way. Good session.
Look at Japanese Shibori dye techniques that create different patterns.
Experiment with your own techniques to get a range of patterns.
Try out different color ink combinations and colored tissue papers.
Design an African Mask - read about symbolism used in creating different tribal masks, war masks or honoring a deceased ancestor, etc. Begin painting chosen design. Devon gets "totally" involved in her creative endeavors and has her own "vision." I enjoy working with her very much.
