Quiz on Drown, Introduction to the Novel, and Reading Selection

Today Ashley was going to have a quiz on the short story that we explicated yesterday in class. Also, I was going to provide her with an overview of the birth of the novel as a mode of literary study, and then read a selection from a textbook/novel of Ashley's choice.

In our first class Ashley and I were to become acquainted with each other, deciding which readings/genres/books we wanted to include in the course. Additionally, I was going to provide a short story from Junot Diaz's collection Drown to read and discuss together.

Ashley was absent for medical reasons and could not attend the course.
We agreed at the outset of this two-hour session to spend the first hour on SAT prep and the second on a review of Chapter 1 in the text. We worked problems on a math sub-test of an actual SAT I. After a short break, we worked problems and discussed concepts and processes from throughout Chapter 1 of the text.

None. We worked numerous problems in class.

Ashley is very determined and very deliberate. I think continued practice with SAT problems will improve her speed. Her attitude is great!
