Lesson Comments
We moved onto solving equations today because I want Michael to have a basic understanding of what an equation is and what it means to solve an equation. We started with one-step equations and only solving by adding and subtracting. He had some trouble because he wants to guess. I am requiring that he write out all of the steps and then plug his answers back in to check the answers.
Michael will be able to solve one step equations (finding the missing number).

Lesson Comments
Michael did well on the assignment for the most part. However, he did make quite a few errors. When I ask him, "does that make sense?" he knows that it doesn't. I'm trying to get him to think about the practical understanding and logical thinking behind solving the problem.

Lesson Comments
Michael did complete the reading I assigned for today, but he was very unclear about what he's read. We talked about Willy's hallucinations and continued reading. Granted, this section of the play can be rather confusing, but I'm still very concerned about his reading comprehension.
1)Review Process Analysis as a rhetorical mode. Provide several examples of what "How to" essays accomplish, transition words employed, etc.
2)Brainstorm ideas on what Michael can write a "How to" essay on
3) Begin writing an introduction for How to Make a Starbuck's Frapp (Michael's chosen topic).

Lesson Comments
I noticed today that Michael has not memorized the order of operations (nor does he check his notes to make sure he is using the correct order). I wrote it on the board again, asked him to write it in his notes again, and stressed the importance of doing the operations in the correct order. I am hoping that will help!
Read/Discuss Death of a Salesman
-Willy's flashback
-young Biff and Happy
-Willy's contradictions

Lesson Comments
Michael seems to be having a lot of trouble following the story, even with my constantly stopping to explain. His character analysis of the 3 main characters, consisted of just of just one sentence for each. We're working on developing his ideas further, but it's very difficult when he can't retain any of the material we go over.

Lesson Comments
Michael continued to have a lot of trouble with the reading. We talked about whether the fact he hadn't read anything for a week had an impact, and the importance of him doing a little reading every day. On the bright side, he did rememeber the setting and the fact that Willy is a Salesman. Everything else we covered yesterday was very foggy.
