She came in with a review for a test she has today. Some of the information we covered in the past, so we focused on the more recent information. We did a problem finding the weighted mean, and the mean of a frequency distribution table and how to determine the difference between the two. We spoke briefly about skewness, and the shape of some distributions.
She came in with no knowledge of the topics and concepts for her test today. She had a couple of problems to do for her homework (due today). We went through the topics while doing the homework on the following: frequency tables (interpretation, lower class limits, upper class limits, class width, number of classes, class midpoints, class boundaries), relative and cumulative frequencies, histograms, relative frequency histograms, frequency polygons, and ogive graphs. She was able to go through each topic with practice problems independently when she left.
Jared gave his presentation to Judie today, and did a fine job. It was wonderful to watch him go through the slides and explain their content. We sat all together long after discussing various aspects of statistics that were highlighted in his talk, but mainly summarizing all the hard work that Jared has done this year. Jared definitely has an instinct for Statistics, and this is very evident in his capacity for critical thinking. A great way to wrap up this year.

I'm super-sad to see Jared go, but I know that's the way of the Universe.
Jared completed his long-term project for Statistics, and did a terrific job. He will present his talk to Judie tomorrow morning. I am very much looking forward to seeing him discuss his work out loud to a third party.
We continued working on Jared's PowerPoint presentation. We discussed standard deviations in the context of his study, and cleared up some uncertainties. Jared worked hard on writing the text on the slides, and from time to time we would discuss what he needed to highlight to make the presentation logical from start to finish.

Jared is so concerned with his acne, poor kid. It distracts him no end. I keep telling him I don't even notice it (true!! I really didn't even see it if it weren't for him picking at his skin the whole time and hiding his face… all I saw was the person inside!) but I know it's no consolation to him. I hope he finds a way of getting it under control, for his sake.
We continued with the work we started in the morning.

Jared only did math today! Since he has completed his hours with Walt, all he had today was math, math, and more math, and apart from what I mentioned in an earlier comment, Jared did a terrific job of being engaged. His main struggles were when I asked him to physically work on the powerpoint on the laptop. But all in all, a very good day.
