This afternoon we began with Morgan’s week 24 vocabulary quiz. She worked with her 20 words and their parts of speech, as well as her 4 idioms to complete various questions. She then wrote a short paragraph using 4 of her words. Next, we finished reading chapter 11 in The Hiding Place. We discussed language like half-wit, incensed, and anguish. As we read, we made predictions and discussed the events of the chapter in which the main character is repeatedly questioned by a guard and reunited with siblings for the reading of her father’s will. Finally, we reviewed adverbs involving where, when, and to what extent. We discussed various ways “to what extent” gets reflected in sentences. Morgan worked with examples for each type. She analyzed the sentences by marking their subjects, verbs, prepositions, and adverbs. She then explained the use of the adverb in the sentences.
