We worked on math because we were caught up in science. We learned that negative roots are not solutions for some equations. Then we practiced finding the axis of symmetry and coordinates of the vertex to help us plot the graph of the equations.
13-2 Solving Quadratic Equations by Graphing – We practiced finding the roots or zeros of a quadratic equation by graphing. We learned that the x-intercepts are the zeros of the function. Then we learned that we can name the two roots by naming the two numbers that the root falls between. Next we saw an example where there were no roots because the parabola did not cross the x-axis. We completed two of the homework problems.
We began our session with day 2 of the week 23 vocabulary packet. We discussed the words for this study, which are: phenomenon, mortality, decade, susceptible, and neurotic. Morgan read a passage that utilized all of these words. After reading, she shared what she felt was the main idea of the passage. She then matched the definitions and words as well as completed fill-in-the-blank sentences examining the words in context. We worked to “check” her work by inserting the definition into the sentence to help deepen understanding and confirm the correct word was chosen. We also discussed the idiom of “bite the bullet”. Next, Morgan worked to proofread and edit a Bible verse. She did a great job adding necessary punctuation and correcting spelling mistakes. We reviewed the correct version of the verse and added corrections to areas she had missed. Finally, Morgan will be writing a reflection of her time at Saint Simons Christian School for a page that will be included in their school yearbook. We brainstormed some ideas to get her started.
Morgan wrote her Bible Verse in her notebook and recited it 3 times with 93% accuracy. Awesome Morgan!
Morgan and I took turns reading the assigned chapter reading and discussing the importance of being a follower of Christ. accepting the holy spirit in your heart and sowing the fruits of the spirit.

Morgan did a great job memorizing her Bible Verse and participating in the reading and discussion of being a follower of Christ.
I introduced Morgan to the tools of Adobe Illustrator that we would be using to construct her layered art project. Morgan chose a parrot as her subject matter. I worked with Morgan to create the first two layers of her project.
We began our session with day 1 of the week 23 vocabulary packet. We discussed the words for this study, which are: heterogeneous, gamut, perspicuous, analogous, and maladjusted. We also discussed the idiom of “cut the mustard”. Next, we finished the slideshow on the poet, Maya Angelou and we also read an additional project on William Shakespeare. Morgan took relevant notes on each. Finally, we spent a great deal of our time on an adjective review. We read the text on limiting adjectives, limiting adjective vs. pronoun, descriptive adjectives, predicate adjectives, degrees of adjectives, and finally proper adjectives. After reading about each topic, Morgan worked through practice examples of each. We reviewed her responses and made any relevant corrections. The most challenging exercise was labeling multiple adjectives in the same sentence.
