I substituted for PJ in his Reading class today.
We talked about building a strong character and we also talked about our upcoming field day next week.

Kellan read from his independent reading book today. He provided a summary of what he read. He also predicted what would happen next.

We read the short story, "The Landlord", aloud. Chris answered critical thinking questions aimed at increasing his understanding of the text. This also helped him to understand the theme and relate it to other stories and movies with similar themes.

I had Kellan read aloud to me. Then I tested his comprehension through discussion questions about the text.

Chris was working on the language portion of MAP testing today.

Before reading the story, I asked Kellan to preview the text by looking at the title, illustrations, and any other features of the text. This helped him to activate his prior knowledge and make predictions about the text.

I then had Kellan read the story aloud. As he was reading, I asked him to stop and think about what he was reading and make predictions about what would happen next.

Today, Kellan read one of his comic books to me. He did a great job with fluency and intonation. I'm amazed at how talented he is!

We reviewed the assignment PJ was currently working on and discussed the creative process.

We read some background information about the solar eclipse. We then read about the difference between the solar eclipse and lunar eclipse.
