Kellan read for me aloud today. We focused on slowing down and pausing for punctuation. He tends to read rapidly, which is when he stumbles over multisyllabic words, which makes comprehension difficult.

Today we read a news article and answered comprehension questions. Kellan also summarized the article.

We had a prereading discussion about space and Chris wrote a response to a prereading question before reading background information about the text.

We read an article about the first Black football player in the NFL. I had Kellan read aloud, helping him break down unfamiliar words. Then I checked his comprehension of the text.

Ben did his reading MAP testing.

We read about the origins of Black History Month and studied important inventions by Black Americans as a prereading activity to a Powerpoint project.

Jack read about the proper way to format a thank you and some ways to express gratitude in his writing. We then applied what we learned and wrote a thank you card to Richard for giving him a birthday present - a solar-powered robot. We discussed different expressions of gratitude and signage. Jack emailed it to Richard and was excited to let him know he shared something with him.
