This was my second session with Jason today. Using his consonant-vowel-consonant deck on his bulletin board, Jason read the words as prompted. I encouraged Jason to avoid adding an extra syllable (schwa) to the final consonant. With practice, he more accurately "clipped" the final consonant. When he read several words accurately, he was allowed to pick a fidget from his fidget bag. With time remaining, we checked on his ladybugs; they had adequate food and water. We straightened Jason's classroom, returning items to his backpack and lunch bag.
I asked Ben if he would like to do some reading together and he firmly said no. He said he'd like to watch a video with subtitles on and that is technically reading in some way.
We read the short story, "They're Made Out of Meat," by Terry Bisson. It's a sci-fi story with a dialogue between two aliens discussing the humans they found. We focused on vocabulary to increase understanding of the text.
Today we continued watching the video "The Truth About Alcohol"
Again, as we watched the video we had opportunity to discuss what was happening in the video.
Today I substituted for Ben in Reading,
We watched a video called "The Truth About Alcohol".
As we watched the video we had some open discussions about what we were watching.
Kellan read for me aloud today. We focused on slowing down and pausing for punctuation. He tends to read rapidly, which is when he stumbles over multisyllabic words, which makes comprehension difficult.
