Reading Comprehension Critical Thinking Vocabulary Personal Response

Braden read and discussed a reading selection, "Magic Spinach," by Carol Eron and Fulang Lo. He answered comprehension questions pertaining to the selection using critical thinking skills and delved into the meanings of pertinent vocabulary words,
Eliana and I had a terrific last session of the year. I had prepared a notebook of summer work for Eliana to complete with Ms. Pat. We went over each section: cursive, book log, book reviews, syllabication, games, and oral reading fluency. Eliana completed one page from each section (I wanted to ensure she understood the work). To conclude, we checked out a book from the Batt School library, and I reviewed the entire notebook with Ms. Pat.
Nico and I reviewed a biography of the author, Louis Sachar. He has begun reading books written by him and learned a bit about his life, via research. I also read him a brief summary of the novel, "There's a Boy I the Girls' Bathroom," hoping it will help whet his appetite to read more. A student came in towards the end of class and asked if that was the same author who wrote the novel "Holes," and gave it a good recommendation. I suggested it as a possible summer reading novel for Nico, given parental approval, as it contains some themes of bullying in addition to engaging scenes of friendship.
