Today during SKYPE school it was Ethan's turn to choose what he would like me to read (this is "Fun Thursday" when Ethan has chosen an appropriate book for me to read to him). He chose for me to read a story about Jackie Robinson from a website called read works.org. I read this for 15 minutes and then finished by reading a short comic book about Superman vs. Batman.
Assignment
Read 20 minutes at home or listen to a recorded book
Today we started the lesson by looking at printout of facial expressions that could be used in sign language. Then we looked at handouts of the signs like, fine, laugh, cry, and silly. Ben practiced some of these signs. We finished the session by starting to read "Arthur Meets the President".
Today Ethan listened to some reading passages and had to figure out the main idea. Then we read 2 poems about the wind and discussed the passages. We started reading a story named "A Museum of Their Own" about a museum for Black baseball players. We will continue to read this story on Thursday and discuss the vocabulary and passages. We finished by reading more of the book "Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Cabin Fever".
Ethan and I did 15 minutes of parallel reading and finished off this 30 minute session by reviewing homophones that he has been working on in his language arts class. This was his last session here at The Batt School before leaving for St. Louis. We will continue next week with SKYPE school.
Today Ben chose a new book for us to start reading. It is called "Dragon Slayers' Academy" (Class Trip To The Cave of Doom). While reading I showed him a few signs such as dragon, learn, class, boys and party. We spoke briefly about the main characters and what they may be up to.
Today Ethan and I continued to read his new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book. We focused on the main idea of the story and the character development. We wrote down any new vocabulary words that he came across. We also spent time talking about a summer reading list and the books he will read while he is in St. Louis. We'll continue to read together on SKYPE while he is in St. Louis.
Today Ethan did a worksheet on some new homophones and then practiced spelling them. During the last 10 minutes we read a "fun" book about Superman and Batman.
Today Ethan chose a new book to start reading. We decided to start reading another Wimpy Kid book. He can take this book with him when he goes to St. Louis and I will get another one so we can read it together on SKYPE. We also worked on Homophones today. He is doing well with these and they are part of his spelling lesson (in Language Arts). He then played a homophone game with Stephen.
