Today we started to read a new book called "Miss Daisy is Crazy" by Dan Gutman. We discussed what was happening in the classroom and why Miss Daisy may be a little crazy! We then looked at his book "Slithery and Slimy" which looks at the similarities and differences of reptiles and amphibians. At the end of the session Ben looked at the Magic Tree House web site.
Today I had Ethan for the whole hour. He started a project geared toward the book he has just finished. He is looking up vocabulary words and drawing pictures of the characters doing the things he thought were funny from the book. Then we looked at the main ideas and played a Main Idea game.
Today we read 2 books together. The first was "Math Curse" by Jon Scieszka. This is a book Ben chose from the library. There were lots of potential great signs to learn in the book so I capitalized on that. Some of the signs we did were: Monday, Tuesday, stand, milk, shoes, know, think, math, problem and his favorites were black and ghost (put together).
Today Ethan finished his Diary of a Wimpy Kid book! There were 40 pages left and so we worked very hard reading to be able to finish the book today. We wrote down new vocabulary words to add to the list he has collected from this book. We will choose the next book and start on a project about this book during our next session.
Today Yanuell and I read books. We first read the book named "Chester's Masterpiece" which Yanuell thinks is very funny. Then we finished reading a book we started about Polar Bears and Grizzly Bears. We also finished a game of Bokus that he had started in another class.
TODAY in Reading Ethan and I played a Bingo game that is all about learning the meaning of IDOMS… he did well and learned the meaning of some new idioms. We spent the last few minutes reading and discussing his book "Diary of a Wimpy Kid".
During the 30 minutes that we had together today we spent the time continuing to read Dino Mike and learning signs that we come across. Today signs that we covered were Dad, dinosaur, running, fast, some colors, car, Mom and I Love You. Ben will sometimes does the signs with me and other times he does not. He seems to like the adventure in the story and I try to have him look at the text while I am reading. We also write down any new words and look them up to add to his expanding vocabulary.
Today Ethan continued reading his book Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He is getting very close to finishing this book and working on a project. We also played a game of "Main Idea" bingo which is a game where we read a main idea card and then he has to decide if he has the main idea on his bingo card!
Today Yanuell and I did many reading activities. We read two of his books that he created (The Book of Lizards, and The Book of Dinosaurs), and discussed them together. Then, we read a book that he told me he enjoyed about Martin Luther King Jr. Yanuell seems very touched by this story, and the stories of this time.
