Today in reading Ethan read to me from his Wimpy Kid book. He then drew a picture of the character (freehand) with captions. This is part of a collage with captions that he is starting with this book.
We only met a for a short time today as the school started watching the presentations for holidays around the world. We did have time to read more of the Wimpy Kid series. Ethan had read some pages at home and we discussed what he had read!!!
Today, Charlie and I read a story about a little girl and her grandmother during WWII who have been exiled from their homes in Poland to a work camp in Siberia. As we took turns reading, we would stop and discuss the content. We also took time to predict what would happen and also to understand big/confusing words. Before the session was over (we didn't finish the story), we worked on one comprehension question. The question asked Charlie to put himself in the girls shoes. If he had to leave his home and didn't know where he was going, what 5 items would he bring with him and why. His responses were very interesting!
Today Ethan and I continued reading "Despereaux". He is giving me predictions about what he thinks will happen to Despereaux and Pea. WE then co-read Wimpy Kid (which he REALLY likes and finds funny).
Assignment
Continue Reading books (up to page 85 in Wimpy Kid)
Today Ben worked on Wilson sheets that were left for him to do with the substitute. Also he was read to, asked for predictions on the book and we discussed the book afterwards.
Today Ethan and I started a new book named "The Tale of Despereaux". It captured his interest so we will stay with this book. He also read out-loud to me..Wimpy Kid
I substituted for reading today with Gwendolyn. She worked online on readingeggs.com. She read an excerpt and then answered questions based on what she read and the new vocabulary words that were in the excerpt.
Reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid and The One and Only Ivan
Lesson Outline
Today we continued to read the D.of a Wimpy Kid #10. Ethan is reading out loud to me and he is writing down the words he does not know the meaning of and then looking them up. HE then writes them on a card to be used as vocabulary cards. He is doing well but NOT reading in between classes. I had assigned a small amount of reading at home which he did not do. It would be helpful for him if he did more reading between classes.
