Unit 10 Organisms and Their Environment
Lesson Outline
Lesson 2 – How Do Organisms Obtain and Use Food? – We learned that animals including humans, cannot make their own food so they eat plants or other animals. The energy stored in the food source is passed to them. Next we learned that nutrients help you grow and give you energy. Then we defined the terms: photosynthesis, producer, consumer, and decomposer. We learned that when plants make their own food it is called photosynthesis. The process requires sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide from air. Photosynthesis produces sugar for the plant to use or store and oxygen released into the air. Since plants make their own food they are called producers in the food chain.
