We worked on the calculator portion of the math exam.

Dylan did very well on the Reading assignment, and exceptionally well with the vocabulary he studied. He is using the strategies advantageously as we work together through the readings, eliminating incorrect answers, and reasoning through remaining possibilities. At times, I ask how he decided between two answers, and sometimes I explain how I would have reasoned to the correct choice. This is all deep preparation for the real exam. The Language portion is generally easier, and I use opportunities to teach or reinforce grammatical points and mechanics that must be known for most points in that section. Dylan will do the reading test beginning on page 694, and he has vocabulary SAT words to study.

This was our first meeting so we talked about test strategies and completed the no calculator part of the exam.

Dylan is doing a great job in preparation for the SAT. He is learning some useful academic words that may well be on the exam -- both definitions and in context. He is also applying the strategies taught quite well; these are time-savers and wise ways to get the most points. When he misses a question we discuss it thoroughly until he totally understands the correct choice. He is seeing how word choice in the prompts try to "trick" the test-takers and how to avoid these. Another thing is learning where to go quickly (safely) and where more time is required.

Dylan is doing extremely well with his SAT prep. We are continuing with the strategies laid out in the textbook, learning new vocabulary (or reviewing the "sort of know" words), and working together through the Language items. Dylan will write our ten new vocabulary words into sentences and know their parts of speech. HW - 598-600, 678-680.

Dylan did very well on the assigned reading work, as well as with the academic vocabulary list that I sent. We worked on two types of question/answers tonight, discussing where needed. Dylan has a reading assignment and I will send more vocabulary to his text. He is doing great!

Dylan completed his assignment from last time and learned SAT vocabulary words. Tonight we completed a full practice test of Writing and Language. He is assigned pages 491 to 496 in Reading for Monday night's next session. We made up last Monday's session tonight (Thursday).

Dylan and I worked through several problems in graph interpretation, inference from surveys, similar triangles, algebraic equations, and practical applications of mathematical methods. We almost completed both parts of one practice test. There was no assignment.

We reviewed the five strategies for SAT test taking from the Princeton Review book, and did two Reading Drills, using the strategies, discussing, and gaining a stronger understanding of how to select the correct answer with an economy of time. Dylan will do two assigned tests that we will review next week (back on Monday schedule -- he was sick this past Monday so we did our class tonight, Tuesday). Vocabulary words are being sent to his cell phone for next week as well.

Dylan and I worked through some problems together and I showed him some short-cuts and how to interpret some of the word problems into mathematical equations. I also showed him how to square a binomial expression and how to add complex numbers as well as other algebraic skills. There was no assignment.
