To begin, I did a quick review with Dylan for his test. Dylan then took test #9 on Northern Africa. Afterwards, we did a review of the regional history and physical characteristics of Western Europe from chapters 14 and 15. Dylan will bring the notes from the second semester to our next session and we will continue to review for his exam.

Dylan reviewed the study guide for meiosis and genetics, including crossing over, trisomy and monosomy. We also reviewed the four requirements for evolution, the four proofs for the endo-symbiotic hypothesis, and the four requirements for a relic to be designated an index fossil. We reviewed the difference between co-evolution and convergent evolution, an the variations in symmetry. Dylan researched some definitions that are significant in all these subjects in preparation for the upcoming final.

Animal Kingdom -
Dylan reviewed everything on the study sheet for the animal kingdom quiz. We worked on the classification system in general, and the anatomy, and distinctive characteristics for representative species for each phylum. We spent considerable time examining the phyla arthropod, and mollusks. I provided shells from the four groups of mollusks: gastropods, bivalves, cephalopods, and cephalopods with shells (chambered nautilus). We also examined species of Cnideria (coral) and echinoderms (starfish). I think Dylan is ready to take the quiz.

North Africa: Egypt, Libya, and the Mahgreb
Lesson Outline
Today we listened to an NPR broadcast on the Arab Spring, then we read a few articles from the BBC on the developments in Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya since 2011, as well as an article on the role of IS in the current Arab crisis. Next we reviewed chapters 24 and 25 again, and then watched a portion of the documentary "The Square."

Dylan completed his test number 8B. Then he took notes on chapter 24 and 25 which covered the physical geography of Africa and the history of civilization in the northern region. We ended by viewing the beginning of the documentary "The Square," which follows a few young revolutionaries during the Arab Spring in Egypt in 2011.

Dylan reviewed the five phyla, from Porifera through Arthropod, that are part of the animal kingdom. We reviewed different representative species for each phylum, the anatomy, and distinctive characteristics that define each group. We concentrated on vocabulary and evolutionary processes that gave rise to each phylum. Homework: Dylan was given an article to read, which compared and contrasted centipedes and millipedes.
