Lesson Comments
Patrick is such a hard worker!!! He really did try his best on the word study section. One thing I noticed about his testing behavior is that he really focuses on the words or parts of the sentence he DOES NOT know rather than what he DOES know. He gets extremely overwhelmed when he feels like he can't do something.

Patrick was engaged in Earth Day activities. One of his peers coordinated and lead in a celebration of Earth. All of the school participated in fun games, such as trivia and pin the hand on the Earth. The students learned amazing facts and statistics about the garbage in our country, the size of Earth, and the animals that live here, also. These activities were centered on the three R's: Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse. Patrick had the opportunity to make a birdfeeder and a terrarium. He also had his own scavenger hunt team, where he searched for items that were both recyclable and not. It was a fun learning experience for everyone.

Identifying Patterns to Solve Word Problems
Lesson Outline
Patrick started by reviewing skip-counting through number mazes. He really enjoys them and was successful with the 2's, 5's and 10's. I then modeled word problem solving following specific steps with an Exemplar (each step in a different color). The steps are: find clue words, find clue numbers, look for a number pattern, draw a picture, write a number sentence to match the picture, solve the problem. Then Patrick and I worked together to solve another exemplar following each step.
