Patrick and I continued working on his fact ease and fluency through 10. We played a new subtraction game. Patrick continues to seem more fluent and comfortable with subtraction. Lastly, I gave him 8 questions of mixed review to complete on the white board, 4 addition and 4 subtraction. He completed 7 out of 8 correctly with no assistance. I noticed him using the strategies we discussed to find some of the answers:)

Patrick is doing great:) He is still at times including the number he needs to count on or back from though. Nonetheless, he is more fluent and confident. My goal is to move on to numbers through 20 next week.
Patrick and I discussed what he knew about verbs. He recalled that verbs are movements:) I modeled how they are more than movements showing him that I can look, think, and stare without moving. He thought that was pretty funny. We agreed that verbs are movement and action words. Next, we played charades. We took turns acting out verbs and writing down guesses. In order for the guess to count it had to be written down. Then we took a verb walk. Patrick generated a list of 21 verbs he noticed people doing. He was very perceptive with this. He used verbs like opening, closing, taking, etc...This is a great example of Patrick's higher-level thinking. He moved beyond the obvious choices (walking, talking, etc). Lastly, we began Patrick's verb book. His finished book will include himself completing an action and creating a sentence to describe what he is doing on the computer.

Great understanding of how animals grow and change.
Today Patrick did an outstanding job in his FF program. He created a new high score in Paint Match. In this brain game he is required to match pairs of words and recall their location. This task supports phonemic awareness and sound-letter correspondence skills. In L-B, Patrick engaged in a new activity. He brainstormed a list (seeds for writing) of memories that he is able to visualize. He provided some details, in order to make his image more vivid. This will be an actiivity that will eventually lead to a writing piece, where Patrick will see how he can use the structure words he has learned to incorporate them into his writing, as well as reading. It was a fruitful day. I hope that you all have a super weekend!
Continued to work on reading two syllable words. Patrick is doing a fantastic job sounding out and blending these words. He is still having a hard time with welded sounds and needs to memorize them.
Patrick and I reviewed and practiced his subtraction facts with subtraction war. He really enjoyed this game. He was very successful too. He determined a majority of the subtraction problems without a visual aid. When he referred to the number line, he was able to find the answer simply by looking rather that physically counting the difference. That is a big step. He is seeming much more comfortable and confident with subtraction! Patrick reread Bats for fluency. He was very successful.

Patrick seems to be gaining confidence with subtraction. Despite hesitation in reading, he was fluent and successful.
Patrick and I reviewed communities and discussed the communities he belongs to. We created a communities mobile/project with pictures representing each community in ascending order. Patrick enjoyed locating pictures to represent his communities online. Patrick determined that he belongs to a home, school, city, state, country and world community. We were unable to locate a picture of Juno Beach Prep, so he took his own picture! The project inspired Patrick to learn his address:) He should know his city and state now!
