Today Patrick performed well in keyboarding, completing two modules. He scored an 87% on module 8, and a 95% on module 9. He tends to look at the keyboard while typing. This is new for him and I continue to remind him that he types more quickly when not looking. I remind him and cover the keyboard to prove to him that his fingers already know where the keys are located. Patrick continued nicely in his FF program today. In Lindamood-Bell, he completed working on the story, The Wolf Pack. Again, Patrick was able to generate well thought-out responses to higher order thinking questions. He also correctly, completed a word and picture summary of the story. Patrick worked very diligently today.
Today Patrick and I finished our read aloud Flat Stanley. He is a very attentive listener. He made several predictions throughout the story supported by facts and information read in the story. He also made several personal connections to the story. Patrick and I discussed the story at length and I am impressed with his higher-level thinking skills. Specifically, his ability to infer:)
Patrick and I opened with the math game Toss a Number. We used both addition and subtraction to play. Patrick won:) He really enjoys practicing his math facts with games. We discussed that every Friday I will give him an untimed addition quiz. The timing makes him feel nervous I think. He suggested that we time later in the year. Next, we reviewed subtraction. I modeled using the strategies and then Patrick practiced successfully using the strategies when needed. Patrick seemed a lot more comfortable with it today. I really want him to become fluent with his basic facts, so he has a solid foundation for later. I am proud of his willingness to practice and use the strategies he needs to be successful.
