good going today, look forward to Patrick visiting us at the dojo to increase his training
Today I introduced the difference between living communities (urban, suburban and rural). I showed Patrick a powerpoint with examples of each community. We discussed the major differences.
Next I introduced nouns as words that discuss people, places and things. Then we looked at pictures of rural communities, picked out nouns and sorted them in a double t-chart. Patrick really seemed to understand the concept of a noun. We will continue Friday with suburban and urban communities.
Today Patrick completed a sentence by sentence activity in his LB class. Patrick did very well and continued to practice using the structure words to give a picture and word summary. He was able to elicit the gestalt and added details to demonstrate his understanding.
Today Patrick and I used 10-frames to practice adding strategies concretely with sums to the number 10. The strategies we practiced today were
1) Find the largest number in the addition sentence
2)Count on to find the sum
We practiced this with red and yellow and then using 2 different colors on paper to represent each number in the addition problem.
Assignment

Lesson Comments
Patrick does not seem to demonstrate a concrete understanding of addition. My goal was to begin with Make-10 concepts, but will first focus on basic understanding of addition.
Practiced reading two syllable words. Worked on reading each syllable separate and not guessing. Then blending them together. Worked on fluency with sentences.
Explore the idea that there is a variety among seeds through comparison. Explain the structure and function of seeds and fruits. Go over the questions on page A 43.
Explore the function of stems through inference. Explain the structure and function of stems and leaves. Discuss what would happen if the tree trunk were like a flower stem. Go over the questions on page A 39.
Today Patrick continued in his keyboarding program. He completed 2 modules scoring an 87% and an 86%. Patrick reviewed using his structure words in his V/V program. He effectively provided details of the picture in his mind through using each word for support. Patrick also identified the gestalt of the story. He also used remembered that he could use hand gestures when describing his picture. Patrick worked in his FF program for only 10 minutes today, as he gathered with his peers for a birthday celebration.
